Steam Refund Policy Rules for Price Drops: How to Rebuy Without Penalty
Did a game you bought at full price go on sale 48 hours later? Valve's official guidelines allow you to refund and repurchase safely.
Valve's Explicit Policy on Sale Repurchases
Many players fear that refunding a video game because it went on sale shortly after purchase will trigger account warnings. Valve explicitly addresses this in their official support documentation:
"We do not consider it abuse to request a refund on a title that was purchased just before a sale and then immediately rebuying that title for the sale price."
The 2-Hour / 14-Day Boundary
To qualify for automated refund approval, you must have played under 2 hours total and submitted the request within 14 days of the original purchase timestamp. If approved, funds return to your Steam Wallet within hours, allowing immediate repurchase at the discounted rate.
